Today I shared our ideas with the architect and I am curious to see what the next draft looks like. Nothing happened between the holidays, which is why there was no new draft.

As always, right? Honestly, I found the main rooms of the first draft so unappealing that I lacked the desire to participate in the discussion. Those narrow long rooms and the dark kitchen are unworthy of an architect. The hand-sketched draft of the OP was miles better than the professional's design. I believe the problem was more that the architect precisely followed our original wishes and did not oppose or provide more advice.
Garage on the right in front of the house with heating and laundry room and direct connection to the house; pantry with direct passage to the kitchen and open architecture with living/dining room.
Upstairs we wanted 2 children's rooms with their own bathrooms and 1 bedroom with dressing room and en-suite bathroom without separate access.
Based on the draft, we also discovered the weaknesses through the forum and redesigned.

I think the problem was rather that the architect followed our original wishes exactly and did not object to things or provide more advice.
