I don't quite understand the approach, but okay... There's no need to discuss the new floor plan yet; if the exterior dimensions still change, it will look different afterwards... But just saying, I wish you children who sleep through the night. Otherwise, they will sometimes sleep long in your bedroom or you better start training yourself now for the half-asleep obstacle maze run.

Don't understand the jump from 2 full floors to a bungalow. Also don't see any advantage. Go back to square one and think about what is important to you. Don't keep tinkering with the labyrinth or the bungalow for sun allergy sufferers.

However, these compromises would not be necessary with a modification of the original version either.
Instead of moving the office to the upper floor, you could also place the washing + drying upstairs. Preferably in a corner of the house (e.g. southeast) and adjacent to the bathroom, and not next to the children's room because of the noise.

Garage on the southeast side of the house with access, for example, through the utility room or pantry would still be possible.
A smaller living area would not be mandatory either, as long as no building window and no budget set a limit, you can add a few square meters anywhere.

If these extra square meters for the upper floor would be hindering or unnecessary, you could also enlarge the ground floor living area with a small projection. This would then optionally become a balcony on the upper floor or get a simple small roof.

Addition: And of course, you could also keep all the desired rooms on the ground floor by simply building the ground floor slightly larger than the upper floor. It is just a bit more expensive than a simple building with equal floors, so you will have to set your own priorities.

Especially with a north-facing plot, the main advantage of two floors is that you can give twice as many rooms a nice sunny location. For your plot, the aspect of the elongated shape with a relatively narrow west garden also comes into play.

What the template would maintain, however, is precisely the criticized coupling of house and garage.

That seems familiar to me from Rensch-Haus.

Well said.
