I observe that especially "the elderly" have tended to succumb to a certain kind of mainstream, at least in the past.
At least I don’t see such uniform clothing in any other age group as I do with those over 70 (beige windbreaker, beige pants, strange beige or black leather shoes with holes in them and yet beige fine-knit socks; shirt and a beige vest with reddish diamonds on it. - Sorry, I don’t pay much attention to the ladies there, but I wouldn’t be surprised to mainly see beige skirts).
Recently, my father suddenly wore the winter version of those shoes without holes, but they have such a characteristic shape). That really seems to have something to do with age.

A friend of mine always called it "professional youthfulness" when rather conservative-looking people over 50 suddenly got off their health insurance soft chopper with piercings or tattoos and stumbled straight into the pre-warmed office at the government agency.
