If it were a one-time purchase of this small amount, I would certainly do that. We are talking here about civil servants in the upper service and a purchase in the double-digit range. Civil servants have so many advantages compared to employees, so I can expect that (and I know what I’m talking about, I was a civil servant).

But this is exactly what ails our society among other things. Everyone only does what they have to, and not even a little bit more for the good of society.

I'm going to print that saying on a T-shirt for teachers in problem neighborhoods. #irony

Why are you no longer one? There can be several reasons. 1. You realized that the economy is more attractive. For whatever reasons. 2. Disability for service? 3. Disciplinary proceedings? 4.? If one of the first three points applies, I openly question your intention behind the criticism.

Civil servants have advantages. And disadvantages as well. Duties and rights. For example, the prohibition of strikes still applies. It has very obvious reasons. In the current situation, that is great for the civil servants. In economically strong times, civil servants get the short end of the stick salary-wise.

Imagine if teachers were paid as well as nurses or educators. Or IT specialists in the public sector. Then you can figure out what happens to German education. It certainly doesn’t get better.

And to demand that IT and/or office equipment be purchased privately is simply bold. Why don’t you buy the teachers the cameras and other equipment.

And also recording and sending videos... Aha… You just send a few GBs of data. Surely.

I am retired. I would have no problem at all buying the camera for the teacher. If necessary, the parents can also chip in. You apparently don’t understand that what matters to me is that I expect initiative from the teachers. To come up with something. And not just distribute worksheets and leave the teaching of the material to the parents, who often do not have the qualification for it. If nothing else works, at least call regularly.

People why camera?? Everyone has a laptop and/or PC. The investment e.g. phone stand costs 20€. I get equipment provided (laptop cable phone) wireless mouse, 2 cables or swivel lamp I bought myself. Why? I easily save the 40€ on gas. L

Then you are still a civil servant :-)

But I understand that. And I claim that with few exceptions, almost every teacher has put in a lot of commitment at some point. Why that is no longer the case in some (many?) cases will be very individual. Therefore, this whole discussion is not very constructive, as it is far too general and sweeping.
