A floor plan view with dimensions would also be good. My choice between the two designs would be the "U". The island becomes too small, there is little countertop space left, and the passage created by the island solution is a shortcut that brings more disadvantages than comfort.

That was also my thought with the drawn-in sofa. However, there are certainly pieces of furniture that make such a positioning look particularly nice.

Well, the room is 436 cm, 60 cm L-leg bottom plan, 2x100 cm passage, leaving 170 cm island width, which could then certainly be made 120 cm deep due to the total room length of 701 cm. Right side row 60 cm, 110 cm distance to the island and then the island 120 cm, leaving about 410 cm to the left for the table. And, if you then place the table as drawn in the floor plan and do not place the sofa as a room divider, then you have a well-structured room. With standard cabinet dimensions, I would choose 4x80 base cabinets for the island, 2 from each side. A great huge work surface, plenty of storage space and everything in the kitchen always reachable on 2 routes.

We see it the same way. The planner just drew it that way now. We are rather thinking of something like a chaise lounge, but facing the room side (so basically mirrored).

Regarding the kitchen: This is the current plan. The dimensions of the island are not entirely clear yet.

Purple is a bit too much distance and green a bit too little. I would reduce the purple by about 20 - 30 cm, maximum 110 cm, and increase the green by about 20-30, minimum 90 cm. In my opinion, the left edge of the island does not have to end in line with the end of the lower L-leg. Therefore, I would rather emphasize the lower leg and, for example, change the 90 cm base cabinet to a 100 cm one. Or, since it is also visible, possibly add a 15 cm element with a door to the left of the dishwasher for, for example, a towel holder, etc. This also saves a panel or support to the left of the dishwasher.

Full agreement with the assessment of the distances and letting go of the imagined line – if it is supposed to be the island. Depending on how you cook and that being a connecting activity especially when others are already sitting at the table, I would consider placing the cooktop on the island to be able to cook facing the room.

I find a 160 cm wide island still too small. With an 80 or 90 cm cooktop, there is not much space left on the left and right, the cabinet layout, and nowadays something like Bora is modern in islands, which further reduces the storage space in the base cabinets. And such a wonderful large island is perfect for cookies or pizza baking, guest buffets, etc. with 3 children and family.
