You have implemented these arguments well with the "technology-free" island. The main argument is the shared workspace for the large family and the access to the sink/trash from the dining room / south terrace.
We solved it quite similarly - also with the door from the kitchen area to the garden. Overall, we are quite satisfied with it, but the layout also has disadvantages. The most noticeable is the door that opens inward (I was convinced by our window installer and no longer remember exactly why). The open door blocks three drawers and a section of the countertop and can, if unlucky, collide with the oven door opposite. Therefore, this door is always closed when working in the kitchen. That is a bit of a shame, as we have a nice little terrace spot and herbs in front of the door. In summer, I would often like to have the door open. This "problem" worsens if there are no other exits to the garden, because you probably don’t want to endure the through traffic of housemates while cooking in practice. The doorless island solution should offer more advantages for .That is currently our plan or idea for the kitchen and it will be realized about 95%.
