It's not that bad ;-) The power of habit? Hmm, all I can say is that this has established itself with us without any prohibitions. There was never any intention behind it. Maybe it will be different in the new house. But the basic idea would still initially remain: couch / TV as a private end of the day. dining table / kitchen / conservatory as the center of life.

The conservatory seems to be fixed. What is it supposed to look like? If possible, I would visually integrate it more into the living space, for example, there could also be a dining room there. I would not regard this room as an afterthought, but rather as a fully usable room. A few windows in the current living room removed due to TV usage.

You can see it from the dining table too and it’s even closer than on the couch ;-) Let’s see how it really turns out in the end :-)

Then you would have to place the access to the conservatory differently - as it stands, you have to go through the kitchen or past the narrowest point by the kitchen. Ideally, the conservatory would then be accessible through the middle window by the dining table.

This shouldn’t be a stepchild treatment. The conservatory is positioned so that it offers a full view of the entire garden.
We have already considered relocating our entire dining area into a heated conservatory, but the spark didn’t catch.
The dining area inside is for family use + possibly a guest occasionally. The conservatory is a space for multiple guests. That’s how it is today and we like it.

But then you have the problem that you get to the garden by going through the conservatory. That’s how it is now. In the new house, I definitely wanted two doors from the common room: one into the conservatory and the other directly into the garden.

Maybe we have to experiment a bit more here.

But that contradicts the massive kitchen island and the claim to entertain in the open-plan area???
