Hi guys,
I wanted to give you some feedback.
We have now decided to implement variant 3 for our floor plan.
We do not want a full integration of the conservatory. We will implement the conservatory as a docked variant as sketched.
A few reasons for this:
- The conservatory will be fully glazed, walls and roof including awning and shutters / blinds. The walls will be fully retractable, so that in the minimal case only the roof remains.
- In the transitional seasons spring / autumn, a fully glazed box heats up faster and it is very pleasant to sit there, for example, for Sunday coffee.
- A fully integrated conservatory would not be fully retractable and, probably for energetic reasons, would not have a glass roof or such an implementation under KfW standards would become very expensive.
- The doubling of the seating area is given in both variants. With a fully integrated conservatory, a second proper outdoor area is needed, which again requires shading. With the docked conservatory, the seating area is simultaneously the outdoor area.
- In the docked conservatory, the walls can be fully retracted and the room merges with the garden. Still, warmth or bugs do not get into the house that much, since there is another windowed door from the conservatory to the house.
- The docked conservatory serves as a separate retreat area for visits for only one of us.
- The seating area in the open space is for 6 to 10 people, which I can still serve without stress. With more guests, we move to the conservatory, which then is more separated from the kitchen / chaos.
- The separate conservatory prevents the acoustics of loud noises / guests from spreading so much inside the house.
Certainly, there may be solutions or other ideas for many of the reasons mentioned as to how the conservatory could / should be integrated into the house as a warm conservatory, but for us, it is out of the question.
Thanks for your suggestions!
It is good to question your decisions to make sure you are making the right decision for yourself for the right reasons.
