I think I liked the idea of placing the children's bathroom between the rooms better, because that is the north wall and then the lower room gets more light through a corner window or two windows.
Where you want to put the shower now, I would still consider leaving an opening so that the hallway could extend over the entire house height and you have the connection between upper and ground floors. That speaks again for the access-through-dressing-room variant.
