By building yourself I mean with an architect and individual contracts, not turnkey with a general contractor. From that I read that the boundaries between "parents-in-law pay the labor" and "we do own work" are somehow not so clearly defined that €48,000 would be achievable. What if the Ing-Diba doesn't give a loan? Do you have a Plan B if the own work consumes you?

Unbelievable, because we live in my girlfriend’s parents’ house, and in a fully independent apartment at that. I would be the mama’s son-in-law if that were the case. And what six-figure financial injections are you talking about?
The three years rent-free that we have enjoyed since university, where we saved a maximum of €30,000 compared to a market rent for 45 sqm? Or are you jealous of the working hours our families put in for us?

And everyone can do whatever they want with their own money. But if you finance a camera and take a trip every month, then you simply don’t have much equity left for a house afterward.

I don’t understand that right now? If Ing-Diba doesn’t give a loan, then construction won’t happen and the contract with the construction company will be canceled (we agreed on that contractually). Besides, what is the 48,000€ about again? That was just a fictional amount to top up our equity. I think the conversation is going in circles here. We are recalculating all costs again, my husband has done his cost calculation in parallel and also comes to 500K. And we are waiting for the IngDiba decision ‍♀️ Nothing else really makes sense anymore.

Yes, yes, it’s fine. I can list many more things that were done. While others had to do without in life. Now it’s our turn :) so take it easy. I find it outrageous that here the finances of others are absolutely tactlessly judged, but at the same time it's assumed that the friends lie and don’t reveal the costs. Maybe in your culture money is a taboo subject and a lot is kept quiet – then I don’t understand even more why there are now allusions towards my finances. That is the so-called anonymity of the internet, nothing else. Everything you are not capable of doing in real life, you can do online with impunity. Sad.

Oh Hausbautraum.... seriously: I really considered adding this time that I did NOT explicitly mean you (I really didn’t)
But you react to it every time as well. :)

1. The mama's boy from my example can’t help it anyway. I was rather criticizing some forum users who attest this excellent suitability for a house to exactly such people.

2. There already were such mama's boys and princesses here who then acted all big and tough and where it was better not to even start building with a double garage and wood-aluminum windows with blinds on a 1000sqm plot. ;)

All good. I exaggerated on purpose to clarify the situation here in the forum a bit for the OP.

Regarding "If no credit then no house construction"

If that is the usual clause, companies usually have the option to find a financing bank themselves if ING refuses. This can become expensive because, of course, cheaper interest rates are not considered. On the other hand, fees are often charged then.
