Why is a room with a lightwell a dream?
Laundry once through the whole house
Garden tools always over stairs
At the latest when the lawnmower hits the shin with a scratch for the 3rd time, the shed comes.
I see that with my parents and also friends.
Many things were brought back up from the basement because it was impractical

If a basement is necessary, then plan the 4th bedroom there. Even if it needs a bathroom. The basement still has space that is missing on the ground floor and upper floor.

I think that’s because I meant the increase in the shell construction. The standard for this shell construction is 75 cm raw, about 90 cm finished, with 1 more brick about 1 m raw and 1.15 m finished. But we had considered taking 2 more brick rows, because a) it’s relatively not that expensive and b) the eaves height has not yet been fully utilized... We don’t know why this is planned as a bay window either, we don’t find it nice/necessary and it was neither desired nor agreed upon like that.

You may be right about age-appropriateness, it’s quite possible that we are worrying too much about that. I will bring this up again at home and with the shell constructor.

That may be true, but we also hear from all sides that people would like to have a basement afterward. It’s probably a matter of taste. Sure, carrying the lawnmower down is inconvenient, but you don’t usually put it in the utility room on the ground floor, but generally rather in a shed (for which there would be a bit more space with a basement on the 360 sqm than with 150-160 sqm without a basement), so that argument doesn’t necessarily speak against a basement, I must admit.

We will definitely reconsider the hint about the bedroom in the basement, which has come up several times now!

Best regards

Wouldn't it be smartest to plan the basement access in such a way that one of the rooms at this entrance is then also practically supplied with a light well? For that, perhaps plan the basement entrance a bit wider right away so that you can comfortably get things down to the basement?

Basically, I think the cellar thing on a small plot is absolutely right. It just doesn’t fit at all with the rest of your wishes. You need rooms for people – and not in the cellar. There are five of you and you regularly want to host guests. Plan a table for six in your floor plan! One person needs about 60 cm at the table, and there should be 1 m behind the chairs for pulling them back. The normal table depth is 90 cm. Do you want to all squeeze into the kitchen – for a lifetime?

My parents have a basement, my parents-in-law have a basement,
we don’t have one because basements just end up being cluttered. Only things go in that you might need again someday.
We don’t miss the basement and would always build without one again.

I would have fully used the height. 2 full floors + attic
instead of a basement
Ground floor: technology, cloakroom, kitchen, living, dining
Upper floor: 3 bedrooms, small office, bathroom, and utility room
Attic is the 4th bedroom if needed and is storage for baby clothes until all the children have outgrown them.

I'm not a fan of a basement either...

...but honestly... 5 people are supposed to fit in the house and feel comfortable. The builders have always wanted a basement or at least, I can't see any alternative here when I see a 360 sqm plot. There are great basements too. A living basement is planned anyway. If the laundry situation is planned a bit more practically, then the man will be happy because he will get a workshop in the basement. And you know: if the man is happy in the basement, then you know where he is before he takes up another hobby

I thought that this design was out anyway
