Maybe you want to go through each wall once more to see if a window can still be installed there. Without any reservations at first, kind of like brainstorming. Involve your children as well. Even if they are still small, they might point with their finger to something you have previously excluded but haven’t really thought through yet. Maybe you can also make some of the windows bigger. Basically, I think your house can have more windows, although I am an absolute window fan. In our own house, we would also have floor-to-ceiling windows facing the street (we don’t have a sidewalk in front of our house), if my husband hadn’t vetoed it.

Otherwise, I think you can compensate a lot with furnishing and good lighting. There are good free consulting tools on the internet and also professional consultants.

One idea would be to mount the TV on the ceiling, between the dining area and the living area (possibly rotatable), and for that purpose add a window in that wall. In my view, the TV could also be mounted on the wall facing the staircase.

If it is possible for you, mentally go through all your cabinets again to see if instead of the usual room-high cabinets etc., you can fit more into dressers. Then you will have more space for windows. From my subjective point of view, that’s nicer anyway.

And quite generally, I think, if the ground floor does not suit you personally, you can always add a quarter-, half-, or three-quarter-high drywall, glass wall, large art object, or similar somewhere. Exactly how it should be, you will notice anyway only once you live in it. ;-)

I have something else, but it can probably be discarded right away since I didn't consider the difficult position of the wastewater/downpipes in both ideas and initially only focused on getting as much light as possible in the important rooms. I'm giving up. It's really not suitable for amateur planning :-(

The staircase would need to be extended a bit and have a spiral in the DB. In the DB there are barely 4 / 5 meters of standing space left. But I also think: dormers should provide windows in the attic. I once thought that rooms with only double casement windows are not living spaces  The children are 3 and 4 years old! ... they are too young to recognize anything important to them on a floor plan.

Yes and no. :D Our sons are about that age and have EXPLICIT ideas about how their children's rooms should be furnished. Right down to the book corner and sock drawer. Our architects are repeatedly reminded of these wishes. "Why is my loft bed drawn there? It should be over there!"

I agree with you. When it comes to furnishing, that's tangible ;)
But here it was suggested to give the children the floor plan drawing - and not for the furnishing ;)
I have to smile a bit, I myself have a granddaughter that age :)
