...where it might also be interesting that vinyl is the same as PVC. Just a newer(?) / different name... Maybe partly different manufacturing methods, but the material remains the same (PVC = PolyVINYLchloride).*

That doesn't make the flooring bad, but if someone says "Don't take the evil chemical PVC under any circumstances" and instead recommends vinyl (happened to me in a specialty store...), then that's almost funny again.

* if anyone can explain the difference here, feel free. To me, it just seems like marketing to get rid of the negative associations with PVC.

We installed click vinyl from Parador in the children's/bedrooms. It was quite expensive. The choice was made because of the children to go with vinyl, and we didn't want to have different flooring in the rooms - otherwise, there are tiles everywhere.

In hindsight: I can't understand what makes this stuff so expensive... When I was a student, I installed 5€ laminate in our apartment, which didn't look any worse. The vinyl, however, already looks like it has been there for 5 years in the children's rooms. It's not robust.

If I could decide again, I would have taken real wood planks right away and sanded the children's rooms in 10 years. If I were to install wood in 10 years now, I would have a step at the transition to the hallway, since the vinyl is significantly thinner than wood...

Which model did you choose?

We also want to install Parador throughout the house. We really like the Modular One lock plank.

We had good intentions and bought pollutant-free vinyl. The problem: due to the lack of plasticizers, the installation was extremely nerve-wracking – the springs and grooves practically broke between our fingers.

After a few months, the vinyl (brand manufacturer) no longer looked as nice as it did in the beginning: the surface became glossy and really looked like plastic. At least the many scratches were hardly visible due to the strong grain.

Unfortunately, we were also sold an overly thick impact sound insulation for this floor. This caused the vinyl to develop new cracks weekly! Sometimes 30/40 cm long!

The end of the story: we at least received a refund for the value of the goods and ripped everything out and had tiles laid. They are a bit colder, but hardly any louder in terms of impact sound.

Honestly, I’m done with vinyl.

Surely there is beautiful, durable vinyl. Maybe even at a good price. Just as easily, you can make a terrible choice with your selection. You simply cannot generalize.

Our old 7 Euro laminate (we actually wanted to spend more but couldn’t find any other in the right shade) was many times more attractive and resilient!!!

We have both. Tiles in the hallway, kitchen, bathroom, and utility room, guest WC. Rest vinyl. No experiments with biobio. It is a normal vinyl from Floor Projects, 20 euros per sqm, oak oiled, laid traditionally glued on leveling compound and heated screed. It causes no problems, warms up and feels softer than tile, smells like nothing, will certainly last decades. And the installation, my brother and I did it ourselves, was not completely easy, but manageable. Of course, real wood would be nicer, but vinyl or PVC, which is the same, is simply more FHZ compatible. Karsten
