Well, there are always changes in the terms. And actually partly still extremely negative (interest). And the interest rate is basically irrelevant. The interest rate increase corresponds to 2 pizzas per month - negligible.

Have or not have
But clearly still effectively negative.

We think very similarly - this morning, when I read it, I told my wife that it is one rump steak less per month

On the other hand, tenants in Germany have countless rights against landlords. Honestly... it's better to rent well than to own a rundown place. The quality of living and standard of life vary extremely within Europe.

In Germany, however, there are also a lot of people who do not want to have the responsibility that a property entails at all. In addition, a property ties you down. Especially with high earnings, this is often seen as an argument for renting because it often makes job opportunities harder to realize. Many do not want to restrict themselves even a little for a house. In other countries, it is not necessarily common to fly on vacation three times a year and to want many things immediately and instantly. Here, however, many want everything immediately and right now, and when you think about an apartment/house at 30 or 35 and have no equity, the rude awakening comes and suddenly everything is unfair. I currently experience this in my circle of colleagues as well. Mid-30s, A9 and A13 and 0€ equity because everything has been spent on consumption, and now they want 550,000€ from the bank for a house and start sweating over the repayment. When my wife and I are in our mid-30s, we will no longer have 140,000€ in debt and we have an A9 and A10, and in our opinion, we have not given up anything. Life attitudes can be so different.

And where did the money for the house come from for you then?
