I am only 31 as well
At that time, we had both worked together for 20 years (she 11 and I 9). In addition to the regular monthly savings contributions, I alone received a total of around €11,000 in tax refunds and health insurance premium refunds. If you don't place value on certain things (e.g. cars), I find these savings amounts not particularly difficult to achieve on a solid salary.
I must also admit. €5,000 was given by the grandparents for the 18th birthday.

If you don’t place value on flashy cars, financial planning in life definitely looks very different! After housing costs and living expenses, there are only (many) smaller amounts left in the household budget.

It's all a question of what you earn and how you live....

Cars, vacations, etc.. everyone has to decide for themselves whether they put every euro into extra payments and give up a lot, or prefer to pay off for 5 more years but still go on nice vacations 3 times a year, etc...

It is less about the people who have already purchased a property and their money, and more about people who want to buy now.

I know several people who have taken cruises and expensive vacations in their younger years. And then the finger is pointed at others with the motto: "He earns less than me, why can he afford a house, but I can't?" Quite simply: He has saved equity, even if that no longer seems so important with low interest rates currently. But simply saying that you can just pay off the mortgage 5 years longer is difficult for prospective buyers in their mid-thirties, because then suddenly there are only 30 years left until retirement.

That was referring to whether you pay off a property in 11 years or in 16 years at age 30. I myself would always want to be finished by 55-57 at the latest, if possible.

And what do you think those who study until the end of their 20s and can only start working then do?
