The real estate market or the construction industry is a very easy way for the state to launch economic stimulus programs. And even the Baukindergeld was terribly pro-cyclical and created many wrong incentives. That did not stop politicians from introducing it.
I do not really understand either statement correctly. Do you have time and willingness to explain them for "dummies"? Regarding the Baukindergeld, I was happy for parents, even though I am not a parent myself, because I find it totally unfair that in all other supposedly poorer countries in Europe, the home ownership rate is significantly higher than in Germany. In my opinion, we have considerable catching up to do there. And people with children should live in a house anyway and not in a rental apartment. My subjective opinion.
