I would really appreciate it if someone could maybe give their assessment whether the idea of moving the OG away and putting the bedroom / bathroom in the UG or basement is practicable and livable from your point of view. Maybe someone has even built like this themselves or has experience with it. Thank you :)

Thanks for the explanation, but when I relate income and loan amount and compare, it’s quite challenging for you too, considering that with me the general verdict was "don’t do it," right? Fingers crossed that everything continues to go according to your plans :)

Yes, that was more or less the consensus here too, that it is very/too tight.

However, we will eventually inherit seven figures and both parents could support us well in an emergency. That already helps to sleep more peacefully (even if for some here it is a no-go).

I gave you the tip to read into the numerous discussions. And yes: we may not have mountains here, but still some hillside plots where the pearls stand. Back then, when there were no model houses, prefabricated houses, and GUS, architects planned, and WITH the plot. And if you leave the standardized new development areas and go into the older areas, also villa areas, you see quite a bit that actually is architecture and that there is more than just square thinking in your head. You just have to stray from the path in your surroundings and open your eyes. Then you too will see that slopes are not only good for garages. And certainly not a south-facing slope – that is like casting pearls before swine. There are certainly also pictorial books, for example from Dumont (I can imagine).

Yes, I had already read up a bit on that, but I haven’t yet had the real breakthrough. However, I will continue working on it and see what is out there. But that already sounds quite positive … Maybe there are also completely different ideas or maybe someone thinks that it’s not possible at all … I have a bit of difficulty imagining how I can get enough daylight into rooms that are completely set into the hillside, for example into a bathroom.

Not self-built, but lived in it. I thought it was great. My bedroom was at the back of the slope; it was always so nicely cool there. Temperatures like at the moment didn’t bother me at all. We had a large open room upstairs with access to the garden, downstairs the utility room, bathroom, and bedroom.
