I have also been planning my own floor plans for months to determine how much space and room we need (and because it's so much fun and makes the waiting sweeter), but I have also made a table where I have written down minimum measurements and a room program (and desired roof shape, some pictures of stairs, floors, etc.). When my husband and I are finally ready to go to a planner/architect or something else, I will ONLY take the table and pictures with me. At home, I can still compare with the floor plans I have already created, so the planner doesn't start out with "blinders" on.

and as well as everyone else, yes it really is like that.

One certainly just thinks about it and as it was already said "because it makes it all the more fun" also somewhat crazy.

Ultimately, it was about not going into possibly upcoming preliminary discussions (pre-planning) completely naked, without any thoughts. But it’s easy to get sidetracked...

As said, it is certainly most important that the planner contributes their experience and ideas without blinkers.

Is it common or conceivable to have preliminary planning done by several planners/architects? Of course, with regard to possible costs etc.

Regards, Andreas

Of course. This is a first exploratory conversation and there you get a feel for whether you get along well, whether you like the planner’s style, etc. That is completely legitimate!

If you decide on a general contractor [BU], they often have one or more architects on hand with whom they like to work. In the end, we decided on the architect with whom our home builder likes to work, following the motto "never change a winning team". Although without the [BU]'s suggestion, we probably would have chosen another.

In principle, we also quite liked the ideas of the architect favored by the [BU] and personally it fit well, so we decided this way. By now, we are not so convinced of this decision anymore, but that has nothing to do with the architect’s quality, rather that you always have to kick the guy two or three times before anything happens. That’s annoying, but you wouldn’t have found that out in an exploratory conversation.

My last resort at the moment is, if nothing works anymore and the guy doesn’t get back to me again, then I contact the [BU], who then puts pressure on the architect and then it works. Annoying, but at least since those two are capable, it works at least that much

Do I get compensation for pain and suffering if my foot is eventually ruined from kicking?

Yes, in the end, one probably shouldn't make a big deal out of it.. if preliminary planning has been done or is being done elsewhere and the actual construction contract is ultimately awarded to someone else. As seen in your example , one is never completely safe from the wrong architect or planner.

So it means calling and making appointments with architects and companies nearby and inquiring there about preliminary discussions or preliminary planning.
