The installer advises against it. A shower tray is certainly safer in terms of watertightness.

I would invest tiles and the money saved in something else nice...

In hundreds of thousands of public showers ( sports halls, swimming pools, etc. ) tiling has been done more or less the same way since ancient times. Just saying...

Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.... The tiles are not the waterproofing layer anyway. First, a proper preparation is done underneath.

Search on YouTube for "Abdichtung -- Dusche und Bad dauerhaft wasserdicht"

It’s explained nicely there. So if you wanted tiles and the shower tray is only being installed because the plumber wants it that way, I’d rather replace the plumber than the tiled shower
If you want the shower tray because you prefer it, go ahead.

I actually find the visual separation created by using a shower tray quite nice. But I also think tiles are okay, as long as there are no disadvantages because of it. Tiles are an option before I have to order a custom-made piece for a ridiculously expensive price or take a shower tray that I might end up not liking at all.

I just have to see whether one would simply use the regular tiles that are also used in the bathroom. I don’t know how slip-resistant they are.
