Yes, as tomtom79 already wrote, this exists everywhere in Asia, Europe, and all over the world, and yes, especially often in hotels. It's called a heat pump. Only here in this country is it sold to builders as something new and high-tech; everywhere else it’s old hat.

That this is a heat pump has already been extensively explained in another thread.
I don't find it high-tech either, rather curious.

Why is that curious? What else are they supposed to use for heating and cooling?

We are currently planning our single-family house and are now in the final phase of gathering offers from 2 general contractors and one architect. Three people with four opinions on the ventilation system. This makes it all the more complicated for a layperson to make a decision.

By now, we tend to install a central ventilation system, but have great concerns regarding the noise development. Since this is obviously a subjective perception, it does not make the decision any easier.

My fiancée is extremely sensitive to noise. Things that I don’t even hear, she finds loud and disturbing. Perceptions are that different. Therefore, I have great concerns.

If I understand correctly, the ventilation system is not supposed to be switched off. For example, at night. On the one hand, the purpose of the ventilation system would then be lost, and on the other hand, the system might break down, if I understand correctly.

However, would it be conceivable that the system, for example in the bedroom, “deactivates” between 11:00 pm and 2:00 am, or must it really be ensured that a ventilation system runs 24/7?

Many thanks for your feedback.

Good decision.

It is hard to say anything about that. It’s probably very individual.
Try a test listen, at friends’ places, in showrooms, etc.,

This is the first time I hear that a central controlled residential ventilation system should not be turned off.
What should get damaged? Certainly not the fan. Nor the ducts.
One should make sure that no deposits form in the exhaust air that then get back into the living space when turned off.

With a decentralized system, I would see the problem that after shutting off, uncontrolled air exchange between inside and outside can take place and cause significant heat loss.
But I don’t see this with a central system.

So, if the central controlled residential ventilation system is off, it’s like not having one installed.
No problem for a few hours, surely?!
