Only that here the entrance is not on the valley side, but virtually on the ground floor level, and the valley-side basement inevitably becomes dark due to the terrace built above it. Hence the recommendations to avoid a terrace with access to the garden, but rather have dining/cooking/living in the valley-side basement area and sleeping etc. on the ground floor level with the main entrance from the street.

Now honestly... a residential basement apartment is nothing more than a residential ground floor without a hillside location. And no one argues that it would be fundamentally too dark or that the neighbor could plant a 4m hedge (which, by the way, is not that easy in BW). Dark rooms can be solved with large windows.

Why you would run downstairs for every bottle of water is beyond me. The access to the house is from the north, the living areas would sensibly, of course, face the valley, so to the south. Ergo, you carry the crates at most downstairs, never upstairs. In the worst case, you could also install a kind of dumbwaiter to transport groceries downstairs. Or – cheaper and in any case sensible – you plan a path downstairs that can also be driven on with a hand truck.

Just because you don’t feel like carrying anything up or down doesn’t mean proposals or criticism are wrong.

That’s basically what one should do and what the majority suggests: in the basement (in your case cellar) the common room (in your case summer kitchen) together with the utility room on the same level.
The days of the nice Sunday living room and second kitchen in a basement within the thermal envelope are probably over due to costs and the Renewable Energy Act.

It's mainly about the generalization here. The open space in the basement is often a dark hole.

Just don’t generalize it that much.
