Do you see from the excerpt whether there is a counter slope and how tall the drawn trees are?
As I said, even if it is not dramatic in this case, I find the thread very one-sided. Comments like "Who wants to go down to get to the garden," "You have to go up and down for every glass," "if you want that, it ends in a fiasco," I simply find not very nuanced.

I just explained at kt09 why I didn’t find your comments nuanced. I also believe all of you that you have experience and imagination as well as passion for the topic and ultimately mean well. Nevertheless, I personally sometimes find the tone and the dogged manner here very unpleasant. And yes, I have experience with these cellars/basements because EVERYONE builds like this here and I won’t let anyone deny my experience. I don’t need imagination in 2D or 3D because I know dozens of these houses in all cardinal directions well enough. But I’m out now, because the OPs have their own reasons and can certainly present or discard them themselves.

I neither see that anyone here was attacked in any way nor that any generalizations were made. On the contrary - we always address the property and the remaining conditions of the OP very individually.

We are on the sloping SOUTH-facing hillside. There was no mention anywhere of 4m high thuja hedges. And yes, besides imagination, we also have experience. Nice if you contribute your experience. The more, the better.

Ultimately, only the builder decides what is liked and built.

As is often the case here in the floor plan section, the reasons of the thread starters are probably an idea that one has fixated on before seriously dealing with the topic of floor plans. And now the house is made to fit the idea, instead of adapting the house to the plot. Aside from the fact that the planned building is probably not permitted anyway, so that the neighbor doesn’t get a 12m tower imposed. In that regard, that is much worse than the 4m thuja hedge.

That may be true, but the OPs have looked at several houses and seem to be weighing options. We have exactly the same problem, and maybe that’s why the above-mentioned comments trigger me. We have been reading along here for a long time (also following Kati’s thread) and visited the plot to consider all points. Nevertheless, something inside us says that an open-plan living space downstairs doesn’t fit right now. These are in part small details on the plot that are not that easy to put into words. And I only commented on that aspect. Not on the layout or height. There are simply reasons not to want the open-plan living space downstairs. It just bothers me to carry boxes downstairs. I personally (!) also don’t like, as with Kati, that guests arrive in the sleeping area and the best view is in the bedroom. I, on the other hand, have no problem going down a few steps into the garden, that’s where I stay longer anyway. Many comments here are very valuable, but in this thread I did not get the impression that the OP was addressed very individually. But I also say that I struggle with the tone, which apparently seems quite normal to many.

That may be. One reason is probably the already rough tone in construction. In addition, the high investments, which can quickly become existential, also play a not insignificant role. The risk of burning one's money is very high. Therefore, the wind blows a little stronger so that no one can later say, "You should have given me a good talking to."
