: it’s not that simple. so-called "antisocial" ego-hedonistic newcomers without local roots move in and drive out those socially rooted. that destroys the club life, the fire brigade no longer works, etc. therefore: the foreigners should go into the apartments at the beach, the locals into the building area. that’s how i see it. them there, us here. karsten

The problem that Nordlys addresses is less that "strangers" create a home there. Rather, it is about the fact that it is a "temporary home" and the living time is limited to a few weeks a year. I also do not think it is good that a plot/house is inhabited by strangers only a few weeks a year and those who would live there all year round no longer have space because of that.

But it is also market economy that I get to choose my customers. If I don’t want to sell to “non-locals,” then I can do it that way. There is also nothing wrong with me selling only to women with 5 children or exclusively to homosexual Buddhists. That is none of anyone else’s business at first. Or how would you feel if you sold your car and I sued you because I didn’t get it? Absurd!

The problem on Sylt goes even further and has nothing directly to do with outsiders. Even if you are from Sylt and have inherited a house with land from your deceased parents, you are not able to stay on Sylt with siblings. Because if you then have to pay someone out (brother, sister, etc.), you don't have the possibility to keep the property or the land. Try as an ordinary person to pay out your brother/sister when the land and property are worth over 1.5 million euros. With that, without having a choice, you are forced to sell the house and thus leave the island.

I understand what you're getting at... But people in Munich and other high-price regions have similar problems. Then the only option is: sell the land and use the money to buy a condominium.

Or you plan the inheritance in advance. And in holiday regions, you also have more possibilities to generate additional income. But ultimately, to me, this is complaining at a high level. Having a jackpot in the lottery and complaining that it's not the jackpot with the extra number.

Financially, it’s of course a six-number lottery win, but what good is it if you have to leave your long-term job, your friends, your familiar surroundings, or your family behind? Not everyone is mentally so flexible when it comes to their social environment.
