We also have a detachable trailer hitch because only detachable ones were available from the factory, but it has been fixed on for 4 years. I removed it once, then I thought it was too much hassle. Out of interest: how did the story with your masons end? If you deal with the subject because you want to do it yourself, such mistakes don’t happen or you see them. Because you work much more conscientiously and prefer to read again and check. The question is whether you realize that you are making a mistake. The expert came in through the front door and saw it immediately even though he was actually not supposed to inspect the shell construction. Back then I still thought like Silke. I had noticed that the masons worked slightly outside the tolerance, but that someone could make such mistakes...
Topic trailer hitch: It cost me €600 from the factory. Cars without a trailer hitch are possible but impractical. And I’m not just saying that because I, as a sailor, tow my little boat twice a year from winter storage to the berth (used to be more regattas ;) ). You can also use it for many other things, and you can always rent trailers cheaply, especially without mileage limits. In addition, you can put bike racks on it. Next time, though, I would tend to choose a fixed hitch; kneeling behind the car is annoying, and 50 kilos of tongue weight is very tight for the heavy trailers.
