We also have a detachable trailer hitch because only detachable ones were available from the factory, but it has been fixed on for 4 years. I removed it once, then I thought it was too much hassle. Out of interest: how did the story with your masons end? If you deal with the subject because you want to do it yourself, such mistakes don’t happen or you see them. Because you work much more conscientiously and prefer to read again and check.

Did you have too much mulled wine? For the cash, I could have had the stones delivered :D Or could have afforded a craftsman. I had no cash, and I also had no fireplace. I had no need for a trailer hitch, didn’t want a new car before, and also no firewood.

Especially since sticking stones is easier than building with mortar.

They were re-grouted and due to the overlap, reinforcement fabric is to be applied. But you can only really repair the damage by tearing down and rebuilding the wall, which was too late by then. If I build again, I will definitely have the expert come when the ground floor walls are half finished and take a very close look even before that.

We installed a detachable one, but with 75kg tongue weight, that was important to us. Actually, fitting the trailer hitch can sometimes be a bit tricky; next time, I would probably prefer a fixed one as well.

I always find it funny and amusing how some people are proud of their many DIY efforts and the great savings. I am proud that I could afford to do as little myself as possible and move into the finished house relatively comfortably after just under 10 months!
