House construction costs, how were they for you?

well, pragmatically speaking, most simply couldn't pull the option card "do it yourself." Many conditions that argue against providing more than the "usual" personal contributions (like wall and floor work and a bit outside) have already been mentioned. P.S. Before you think something wrong: I probably did above-average amounts and almost all of it was published in a detailed report on the project here. For a reason unknown to me, it was completely deleted with hundreds of posts :-(

Regarding a lot of DIY: Yes, of course many factors have to come together / fit, otherwise it won't work and you can easily miscalculate, which could have serious consequences.

The thing with your report that "disappeared" is really a shame.. I would have liked to read it... For my part, I always have GREAT RESPECT for people who have more or less built their house themselves. That involves a lot: I also reached my limits at times. It was very nerve-wracking in between because you have to chase after everyone / make calls / write, organize, plan, etc. Otherwise it doesn't run!
