Wall costs: Does it make sense to calculate yourself? And what does stone recycling cost?

I put all the construction items for our planned building project into an Excel sheet, calculated quantities from the plan, pored over manufacturer papers to find out how many bricks and how much adhesive per sqm, labor time per sqm, researched construction price tables/labor costs (experience from local builders), found out what percentage discounts the construction companies get from the local building materials supplier. Everything linked together.

Result, a huge Excel file.

Shell construction: Excel 210 thousand euros - shell builder offers ranging from 190-220 thousand euros
Electrician: An electrician wanted the file because his offer was within 1000 euros of the Excel calculation.
Sheet metal work: An offer with a 50 euro deviation from the Excel.
Roof: One offer with a 3000 euro deviation, another much cheaper due to extremely low labor costs.

The total construction sum from all offers was then somewhere around 6-7 percent off from my calculation.
However, that was all before the significant increase in construction costs. Now I only cry.

Result: You can do it, it can also deliver good results. But my wife at times asked if I still had all my marbles.

P.S.: Fence is the only thing missing from my price calculation for the property, but for my wife it was one of the most important things because of the dog.

The result is that you can calculate however you want, in the end the market prices are confirmed anyway. So conversely, you could have simply taken the companies' offers and checked their plausibility. That would have been easier ;)

Yes, the sheet was initially intended for rough calculation. The lady wanted us not to exceed a certain budget. Therefore, it was meant for verification after the tender phase, but I wouldn't have expected beforehand that I would be so accurate. However, it wasn't of much additional use, especially with the price increases now... But I just enjoy Excel and numbers so much! ;)

I took that as an occasion today to dedicate you an addition: "Can I reuse the stones from my demolition house?" :-)

a great text. Now I also know how to pave the paths for the rollator :-) By the way, an architect had a similar idea right away during the walk-through: reuse for a few decorative elements on the new building (e.g. around the front door) as a greeting to the (opposite) old building.
