Really? I found it completely obvious for myself. I also initially laid "only" laminate on the upper floor (tiles on the ground floor), or am still laying. Floating click. We are actually planning to have more children. When they are out of the age where the risk is particularly high (5-7?), parquet will eventually be installed. Whether it will be floating or glued again then depends on the experiences with the underfloor heating.

The older a child gets, the heavier the objects they drop. Pots and pans, for example, when unloading the dishwasher. Children also don’t notice when felt pads have come off somewhere and push chairs or other stuff across the floor with their full weight.
Nothing is scratched deliberately anymore, but instead there are adhesives, felt-tip pens, and similar "dangers" for the floor. Or spilled glasses are often ignored, and then there’s a puddle unnoticed on the floor. With four children, I have experienced quite a bit and would lay parquet in the living room again.

I believe the risk only really decreases when the children have their own household and learn the hard way that caution, consideration, avoiding dirt, etc. saves a lot of work and money.

ditto, I can only agree. Are there really people who forgo nice things because of the children just because they could break them? Where does it end? As a parent, you are not only the child's servant of wishes, but still a real person :)

that only raises the question whether a house that costs 900,000 € with everything included (land) is not also "unnecessary stuff" – and that you actually only need the land (for 150 k€) and a 250 to 300 k€ house – so to satisfy housing needs you MUST only invest 400 to 450 k€ and the additional 450,000 to 500,000 € would be "spending money on unnecessary stuff."

see statista --> Young families in Germany by household net income compared to the population in 2020
"In 2020, around 5.6 percent of young families aged 25 to 40 with at least one child had a monthly household net income between 1,500 and 2,000 euros." ... and another 13.8% have between 2,000 and 2,500 euros net monthly ...

--> these can surely tell you how one COULD save half or 60% from 4 to 5 k€ net per month (if one wants to)

Not necessarily getting damaged, but wearing out very quickly.
Your nicely skimmed Q3 walls won't stay white for long with little kids. And if it wasn’t your kids, it was the guests who unfortunately don’t use the stair railing but run their hands along the wall when they climb the stairs. The parquet in the kids' rooms also looks quite different from the rest of the house.
Our sofas were cheap and already 7 or 8 years old. We had something nice in mind for a few thousand, but when I look at the current ones with all the stains (one of the main reasons for the replacement), I hold back on this investment until the kids are a bit older.
I also wouldn’t buy expensive new cars with small children, let alone lease one. The family car is pretty worn from the inside and someone once drew all around the paint with chalk from the outside... sure, these are all signs of use and normal to some extent, but if you just made a bigger investment, this “these things just happen” really hurts. At least that’s how it is for me. What now happens to the car honestly doesn’t bother me anymore; I won’t get a heart attack from it. It would definitely be different with a new C-Class ;-)
