How cheap can parquet be?

I found online offered parquet in this price range, yes. Questionable, though, whether it's any good quality or just so bad that it's nonsense. I also don't know if someone installs stuff that others bought cheaply as material. MyHammer maybe?

As I wrote in my previous post, we installed parquet for €27/m². I didn't notice anything negative. Of course, the boards on the ground floor (price range €70) look different, especially because of the board width.

I would just not take lacquered or UV-oiled ones, because you can hardly repair anything.

There are plenty of craftsmen who will install it for you. MyHammer, for example, but be sure to pay attention to references.

We also have 2 children (1.5 and almost 4) and last year we moved into a newly renovated apartment with supposedly "high-quality" prefinished parquet. We don't know how expensive it was, but after one year it already looks quite worn. Dents, scratches, and so on everywhere (that will probably be fun with the landlord when we move out soon... but we treated it quite normally!). The children really put it through its paces and that can't be avoided. They drop their wooden toys on it, sometimes drop a plate from the table, and such things. We will sand and reseal the existing strip parquet ourselves in the house and lay rather inexpensive click vinyl in the other rooms (I guess around 20-25€/m2). Specifically because of the children, who would probably ruin any expensive floor within a few years anyway.

We personally take the stance: as long as the children are small and destructive, it's better to install inexpensive material and then, once they have become more reasonable later on, lay something "real". And who knows, maybe the cheap parquet/laminate will hold up better than previously expected?

Hello Mizit

first of all: full-surface gluing is simple. Use a notched trowel and spread well on the floor. But then the parquet is laid and removing it again is rather difficult. So replacement is not an option. And parquet with two kids? It will look like hell in no time. Then forget about sanding. If there are real chips everywhere, sanding is useless. Parquet is sensitive and does not scratch at the 0.1 mm level. And I don’t think much of the "cheap" stuff. You have to consider both the wear layer AND the structure. Cheap pressed cardboard as the base and then some kind of B-grade wood as the wear layer. Why not first lay laminate floating and then, when the kids are older, take that out and put in parquet. Laminate forgives a lot more than parquet.

Because at some point we thought: You will see the traces of small children on both laminate and parquet. And while with laminate you could do nothing more except eventually tear it out, with good parquet you could sand it down.

Which construction of parquet would you recommend?

Hello Mizit

lay floating. Put this cardboard stuff (sound insulation) on the floor and then click laminate (no idea if that's what it's called) on top. You can probably lay it very close to the wall so the laminate doesn't move. And when it's worn out after a few years and the kids are bigger, just get rid of it and lay parquet. You can then glue that across the entire surface. Sanding is a lot of work, often doesn’t bring the success you expect (it removes the small scratches) and probably costs about as much as the whole laminate floor.
