Right, some people don’t want a big wedding. We didn’t want one either.
And then came Corona. Both the birth of our little one, as well as the baptism, our civil wedding – all in the absolute smallest or no frame at all. That’s why we decided at the end of 2022 to have a big wedding, and then properly for us (!!!).

Regarding guest gifts – we usually give at least 150 euros for both of us, but it also depends a bit on how the wedding is organized and how close you are to the bridal couple. If it’s “just” a barbecue in the garden, I would also find less appropriate than if someone hosts a whole day at an event location. But apparently that’s only usual for us.

It depends on how close you are personally to the bridal couple and where/how the celebration takes place. I find 30,- appropriate for a barbecue party in the garden, but at a celebration in the ballroom of the Rococo palace, I would find that absolutely outrageous. A colleague or good acquaintance also cannot be expected to give the same amount as your own brother.

Even that wouldn’t be reasons for me to celebrate, because I just don’t like people :D

But I wish you a really great day!
And above all great wedding photos, those would be very important to me, because unfortunately I’m quite forgetful and then like to have visual reminders.

We had all kinds of amounts - everything from 20€ to 100€ was possible in the envelopes.
We were equally happy about everything.
I would be annoyed if someone linked the amount of money given as a gift to the lavishness of the celebration. I find that cheeky. You give a gift to make other people happy and don’t buy yourself a certain value in return at an event.

Whereas then one would have to ask why the gentlemen who think they have to celebrate in the Rococo hall then “demand” €500 as a guest gift from their guests so that their costs are covered.

But whether the bride marries in a nice dress costing €100, €1000, or €8000, that doesn't affect me as a guest. Of course, it should somehow look like a wedding and not like old rags.
Just as we didn't give more to friends who spent €6000 on their band than to other friends without a band. In the end, the wedding without a band was personally more enjoyable for us than the one with a band, because the band organized terribly embarrassing and awkward games. Should I then deduct €20 for that?
In Bavaria, there are many weddings without drinks; in that case, we actually give less because those costs are added on top for us.
