My colleague once said that marriage is overrated. She went with her husband to the registry office, took a number, handed in the documents, paid 118.99 €, and left unromantically 10 minutes later. They are still married. They saved stress and money, and they also have a few photos.

You are funny - I am currently planning our wedding, with 100 people.
Shall I give you some current figures?

Inquired at three hotels about a hall: 2x minimum turnover 9,000, once 10,000 (so for "location," food, and drinks) - no luxury places. Normal country inns.
Asked four photographers: None cheaper than 2,800 for 8 hours.
DJ already booked: 2,000
Decoration for the hall: At least 2,000, probably more
Then there is dress, suit, invitations, and all that stuff.

And no, this is not supposed to be something "exclusive." It's similar to building a house. I once thought that we could manage quite well with our budget. The reality in booming industries is different.

We are currently doing the same - have also asked a DJ - costs around €1,200
Decoration is incredibly expensive - we're getting lots of stuff from Kik etc. and then doing lots of crafting ourselves at home :D - you can actually save money that way
Photographer: As a tip: really ask all those Instagram hobby photographers. I've been to several weddings where only such "amateur photographers" were working - it was really super professional!

Yes, of course, and naturally the hall rental... I can understand if you don't want a community hall. But that saves the most, of course.
Bring your own drinks, especially also the alcoholic things...

We will easily stay under €10,000 - we'll just have to arrange with a few things that might be more "practical"... Well, whatever

Due to Corona, reducing to 5 already takes the stress away and saves money :)

That was not an option for me. If anything, then properly. Either spend no money at all or do it "properly". But that is of course subjective. I have already been a guest at various multipurpose hall or shooting club weddings - no. No.

Yes, that's true, it has its own "charm"... But it always depends on the wedding guests.

If we were to have a "fancy" wedding here in the countryside, that would be rather strange! :D

The most important thing is that it suits you!

But actually, with a bit more personal effort etc., you can save one or the other thousand without really having to make compromises - but of course, as you say, that's purely subjective.
