Ultimately, a staircase must fulfill its function appropriately, and almost any staircase shape can be designed attractively. Sticking to a specific staircase shape limits you immensely in other respects and has a huge impact on the floor plan, which in turn has to accommodate many other things. We absolutely wanted a straight staircase in the living area; I had already pictured it in my mind. In the end, for various reasons, it was turned 1/4, and I am happy about the advantages that resulted elsewhere. Now we also find a stylish 1/4-turn staircase for sure because any staircase shape can be built nicely or less nicely.

You have fixed "premises" and at the same time want "radical" thinking, which often does not fit well together. Maybe something has to go, e.g., the sauna, or the shower will be different. Wanting to have everything included is rather wishful thinking. I do not find the current bathroom good at all; you should put more planning effort into it. Apparently, you want a bathtub in front of the window and a large shower and...and..., the current design is not good.

...there is little room for "radical" thinking or imagination.

Why are you throwing the bricks into the bin, for which you will later have to pay a lot of money to the landscaping contractor?

Everything new?
Just kidding ;)

Since the north side is not exactly the nicest side of your house anyway (I'll put it in my own words: the yawning boredom is as long as the window bands), I would refrain from a window above the double bed (nobody needs that). Then consider a panoramic window in the sauna – it can be half frosted as well. -> Mix up the bathroom story! Something nice can be created in 20 sqm. The bidet, for example, in my opinion belongs closer to the toilet. Nobody wants to take steps with their pants down...

Correct, that’s why this staircase was chosen, as it combines inviting aesthetics with practical aspects.

That’s true, but an almost square 20 sqm room already offers possibilities. That’s why it annoys me that we haven’t yet found the right concept here.

We don’t do that. Unfortunately, all of that is rubble. But we also have larger quantities of large-format granite stones, like those used here in the steps. Of course, we keep those.

Interesting thought. I hadn’t yet thought of an outdoor panorama sauna. Where would you position it? Where the toilet is now? What I don’t yet understand is to what extent losing the bedroom window changes the situation in the bathroom. From the façade view?

P.S. This side is the unappealing one, completely built up, 4 m from the property boundary, and limited at the front by the garage. Also north side. In that respect, the assessment fits well that this will definitely not be the show side.

In general, it is said that (approximately) square rooms are poorly usable because the uses are usually planned along the walls. However, a square has the largest area in relation to the perimeter (when considering rectangles, it only gets worse as you move towards polygons or even a circle), so you often simply have dead space in the middle but too little space along the walls.

Your house/rooms are defined by the facade, not the other way around, which ultimately makes more sense (see bedroom window) Yep. Or even in the corner. I once tried my hand at the bathroom (new design) but decided not to continue because, personally, there are too many wall elements (privacy walls, shower, and sauna). Besides, I asked about the shower, how you imagine it. There was no response. You misunderstood me. Something can certainly be done from that side. But as it is now, it’s just boring. Instead of planning something and playing with the windows, too much is done in parallel (or symmetrically) here because then one can say that a line was followed.
