Well then I'd like to be the first to manage that ;) I know about the temperature thing but ultimately it was also a question of space in that spot, which is why we chose it and I actually like it (guess I’ll have to think about it again.....). We have a nice wood-burning stove with a larger storage module and most of the heat will probably go into that; also, we can still see how high we can take the pipe outside, that’s not decided yet. I absolutely understand your arguments, but in the end the decision was made because of these things and so far we like it......

Warm mixtures of different gases have probably quite often excellently fulfilled Grandpa Hoppenstedt's ideas of a proper Christmas present for Dickie *LOL*

I have now read a lot in the thread and I want to come back to the initial question. How can I make the living-dining-kitchen area cozier? I think this area is the heart of the house and should be 100% liked. I would always make compromises elsewhere. That means for me if I am not satisfied with this area, I might have to adjust the entire floor plan. I didn’t like the area from the beginning either. For me it is too open and you are now trying to solve the problem with a stove. Have you ever thought about placing the kitchen where the sofa corner is? Table where the kitchen is and sofa in the bay window. The proportions won’t quite fit, this is where the floor plan issue comes into play again. I think cooking, eating, and living are very different areas that I would separate more. Especially cooking and sofa. That is how it is in your current house as well. Kitchen, then dining table, then sofa.

We have made further progress in our planning. The comments from family as well as from the forum have been very helpful in solidifying our own opinion. Based on our requirements, the windows on the ground floor have now become significantly larger, the chimney has moved again and has already been planned out. The passage from the kitchen to the utility room was removed and various interior dimensions have been adjusted. The newly created balcony with stairs is due to a requirement from the fire department, which we had involved in the planning before the building application. The alternative would have been a permanently kept clear turning hammer with a 16-ton load capacity over the entire access road (80m). In the bathroom, details are still being shifted and the position of the chimney is an acceptable compromise for us.

I am aware that our design does not meet general tastes and frankly that suits me quite well. It is a design tailored to our needs and completely self-planned from the inside out. Thanks for the effort of the previous and future comments.
