Exactly, I could throw my T-shirt off and she’s sitting in front of the TV with a blanket and hot water bottle

I actually find our carpet the warmest. However, the four of us are sitting in T-shirts in front of the TV at 20 degrees. Wood-look tiles were also closely considered. In the end, we went with vinyl. Things can fall on it without it being a drama.

So far, the tiles have actually always "won" with us, hope it stays that way

Since we have never had tiles in the kitchen and living room, I can only say about the various mishaps that heavy pots or a cast-iron pan would certainly have left some marks on the tiles. Our PVC and later the laminate did not fare perfectly either, but the replacement was without problems and quick. At friends’ place, 10 tiles in the kitchen (25 sqm room) had to be replaced, and you can clearly see that, despite a professional. But: wood-look tiles look nice, and I do like them visually.

I don't know much about vinyl, but I find at least PVC or laminate much more susceptible; all it takes is a knife falling tip-first, which happens much more often at our place than a pan falling, and in almost 30 years of "cooking time" that has never happened to me. And if it does, even individual tiles can be replaced easily, you just need to have spares. I just wonder how 10 tiles can break from one pan falling??? If they fall on a "cross," a maximum of 4 break, right, or is the pan at your friends' place used for other purposes during arguments?
