We don't have the stairs in the living area, but we don't have a door from the living/dining room to the hallway.

However, we do have the option to close off the living room with a door.

That means when we sit on the couch in the evening and have the doors open by the kids' rooms, they can hear us and the TV, and of course vice versa.

That's something you have to want. What was important to us was that the stairs are located outside the living area. I simply don't want my kids and their friends to have to walk past us when I'm lying on the couch.

I would only build completely open if the kids have already moved out.

and I have also shared our experience. However, it seems the OP thinks the criticism is too much.

Do you have anything yet?

Alright, that will probably be the case (for everyone who wrote that). What do you all suggest as an alternative? Do you think I could solve the problem if I take the concrete stairs and completely close them off? Would that change anything about the noise level?
I had the option with concrete stairs and doing everything with a wall but still open. Then maybe I would also have a way to close off this part from the living area.
Hmm.. Maybe downstairs, to not lose space, possibly do it with carpenter's cabinets.

The noise level is simply constantly noticeable. You have to be aware of that; privacy is no longer so easy. And even if today you think it's great when everyone is always hanging out together. That will certainly change (especially when the children get older) and then you will be glad if you could close a door sometime.

Personally, I wouldn't want to change that; we had it like that in the apartment before and also deliberately built it that way.
Nevertheless, at the beginning we were amazed (shocked would be too strong a word...) that the sound spreads upwards SO intensely or gets amplified.

Just be aware of such things. You might still find them great at your age, but also think 10 years ahead...

I would close the chill lounge towards the hallway and, if you do not want to give up openness, open the dining area towards the stairs as a dining foyer and then place the kitchen at the back. I would also rotate the kitchen so that after the wardrobe you already have a nice view of the kitchen cabinets, with the island in front. However, probably at the expense of symmetry... if symmetry is desired, then one probably has to spend a little more time on a design or on the sketch. So living room where it is, kitchen at the back left, dining area in front with stairs (on the right side). To the right of the stairs then the utility room... something like that.

Ok thanks, I’ll try to draw it like that.
Ps. No, the problem is rather that I read some texts much later, there is constantly advertising and when scrolling texts get lost in the process. And then when I scroll, texts go up and down!
