I cannot understand this compulsive hillside-basement combination at all. On the contrary, especially on a slope, I build a basement 99% of the time, so that access to the garden via the terrace remains possible. With a 1.5m gradient on the building plot, you are exactly halfway up the floor, which is tricky. Still, I would build without it. Let's see what the architect delivers. I would immediately reject anything without direct garden access.

Our slope was not so dramatic in terms of pure appearance when buying the property. But now that a house stands on the property, it looks completely different. We had quite a bit of excavation to have the basement partially embedded in the slope. And since hauling away excavation material has become outrageously expensive recently, we mostly spread the stuff around our house. Because we still wanted some flat area behind/around the house for a garden and terrace, the rest of the property towards the neighbors has now become quite a steep slope. The construction company has currently built up 2 terraces for us. How we will secure and plant them afterward is still up in the air.

I also think it is deceptive. Insulation, floor slab, screed and suddenly the house is significantly above the terrain.

Here are the elevations sketched out. For the house, I mostly see fewer problems. The hillside side disappears somewhat into the ground – so what? There is still enough height for windows, and somewhere the technical room has to go.
In my opinion, the parking spaces will be difficult. It’s hard to drive down stairs there. Here, I could rather imagine something like a "basement" or storage or bike shed underneath.

How should the ditch be handled? According to the contour lines, it should run like the blue arrow. I wouldn’t put a garage on it. Or redirect it?

Thank you for your illustrative pictures, really very interesting and insightful! We’ll see what hopefully comes from the architect by the end of next week. I think we can ignore the ditches, they only have an agricultural origin and can be closed. Anyone who knows how a plow works knows that a small ditch forms at the edges of a field (see picture) many greetings
