No, fundamentally building with formwork blocks is not cheaper. They are merely the oldest construction method for self-builders, dating back to a time when small-format solid bricks were still wet-mortared. Meanwhile, there have long been large-format blocks that are laid flush, which is easiest with "aerated concrete." Today, masonry in the era of planar blocks with interlocking joints instead of butt joints is more rational and less labor-intensive than in the early days of the "alternative" formwork blocks. Accordingly, the saving margin for doing the masonry work yourself has also shrunk. At the same time, with the energy saving ordinance and its practical effect—generally no longer allowing downpipes to be "chased" into exterior walls—this trade has also become more complex. All in all, masonry today is better suited for semi-skilled workers but at the same time less suitable for beginners. And what I strongly advise against is: building a house that is not planned as part of a formwork block system using formwork blocks. All the craftsmen you still need despite your own work must first learn to handle the specifics of such a system. So prudently do not use anyone who has no experience with it. Conclusion: naively building with formwork blocks hardly makes the shell cheaper and can even make the house overall slightly more expensive. If you don’t believe it, just google the nasty word "Regiestunden".

Hello,

I built with a "kit" made of Neopor. And that with a kit from Izodom Germany. I am very satisfied. The shell was finished in 1 week, the house was turnkey in 5 weeks. And at a good price. It is a Passive House Plus (or a bungalow). With photovoltaic system and solar hot water as well as ventilation. 170 sqm including land for € 200,000 (however without a basement, because I don't need one). I assembled the elements myself (instructions are provided) and had the electrical work inspected by the master electrician only. I am super satisfied and I will no longer need gas or oil in the future and even sell electricity.
