The discussion has happened quite often. The wastewater from the bathroom would then be routed through the living room into the basement?! Possible noises from flowing water are possible. 20m more definitely has consequences: circulation line? Warm water cools down in the pipe and it takes time to get warm. Risk of Legionella increases (Note: unproven layman's opinion for pipe lengths over 20m).

Good evening,

This risk does not exist, because a storage tank is heated to 65° once a week; if a storage concept with a flow-through principle is installed, the risk of legionella is completely eliminated.

Rhenish regards

The bathroom water would be routed along the wall of the guest room/office to the basement and then to the bathroom's wastewater pipe on the ground floor. In the ground, there is only a maximum of about three meters to cross. One still has to check the slope. We will talk to the installer and the structural workers this weekend. They will probably be able to tell us more precisely.
Legionella risk: I'll remember this keyword! Thanks!

The soil report is here... Well, it seems that we will fully basement the house and forgo finishing the attic. Costs probably won't be much higher then. We will save on the fixed staircase to the attic and the concrete ceiling. Do you think it's safe to skip the windows here as well? The attic is supposed to be there just in case as pure storage space. We will probably also reduce the roof pitch a bit. Then there will only be just under 2 meters of height in the middle upstairs. And where would be the best place to install this "folding staircase"? Any ideas? We haven't really thought about something like that yet and haven't informed ourselves about it at all.

I would seriously consider not wanting to have an attic at all. After all, having a full basement results in two fully functional storage rooms. If you leave the rooms on the upper floor open to the top with a lower roof pitch, more open spaces are created upwards, thus also providing opportunities for small galleries (retreats) in the children's rooms. This makes the rooms more interesting in themselves. That would be my opinion.

True. A few years ago, my parents also cleared out the attic and swore never to put anything up there again.

Friends of ours have an exposed roof truss and it looks so great!!! Their little one, as Yvonne mentioned, has a loft in his room and our son is so jealous of it ...
