My kids (10-14) would be sick on a cruise ship. And the great club would be worthless. The kids have real fun at a shabby campsite where you don’t have to take care of anything, can be dirty all day long, don’t have to report to their parents, and are (almost) free of all restrictions. Where times and events don’t matter, but friendships do. The "great moments" might interest the 16+ kids, but almost all others prefer to do without... I have also been, for example, in Mexico with my kids. But the enthusiasm is not about the great moments with the Aztecs, but about jumping off cliffs into the Mediterranean with friends.

Of course, that's a matter of opinion. Some people are much happier with a road trip through nature than staying in a nice hotel. And everyone can do it however they want. My intention was just to point out that, especially as a family, it is not unusual to spend around 4.5k-5k for a week in a great club during the peak travel season. But, everyone has to decide for themselves which type of vacation is suitable.

But this balanced differentiation is always expressed with unobjective words by critics of expensive vacations, just like you SaniererNRW123. How do you know that your children would p***** at the thought of a cruise??? Just because one hasn’t done it oneself doesn’t mean one has to hold their children jointly responsible for an unreflective attitude. Water slides, e-bike tours, white-water rafting, great food all day, and many new impressions. I think it is wrong to disparage something like that in a blanket way!

Maybe they would get seasick too – that would happen to us, not just the kids :)

Because I (we) have already done the whole program with the kids. Whether it's a ship, across the big pond, Africa, diving (THAT was a real highlight), DACH, and in the end it’s only the simple things and above all being together with friends that bring the greatest joy. I could afford the luxury vacation too, but in the end for me it’s Happy Wife Kids / Happy Life

But that is unusual. Only a family with a significantly above-average income can afford such an expensive vacation (for just one week!). And many who could afford it don’t even want to. That is why I think it is wrong in a financing thread to generally assume 10k per year for vacations and to accuse people who plan with less of having bad calculations. Vacations can also be taken with whatever money is left over, and if not much is left, then a camping site or a holiday apartment away from the hotspots will do. Those who place a high value on expensive vacations should financially plan for them just like expensive cars, etc. It is not absolutely necessary for everyone.
