Back then, I only asked about the house planning, some people always wrote "you can forget it, it won’t work with the budget etc etc.".. we have been living here for 2 years and don’t have to scrape by :) :)

Others also gave me helpful tips, for which I am still grateful !!!

2 weeks in the Canary Islands during peak season, 4 or 5 stars, + rental car and excursions.... It adds up quickly....

I can confirm, recently my now adult daughter gave feedback that the joint vacations were always really cool….

So first of all: that's really nice.

But don't you think that in hindsight she would have found other vacations with you great as well?

I did a wild mix of vacations with my parents. And in hindsight, I couldn't say which one was especially great or bad. Or rather, the good/negative experiences are not tied to the budget at all.

But don't get me wrong: exotic/expensive vacations can be great. But it doesn't have to be exotic/expensive to be great ;)

In my circle of acquaintances, I know some who are at the beginning of their careers. Their vacations are really unspectacular due to budget. People also like to talk about the spectacular vacations from back then sponsored by Mom and Dad :)

I find it increasingly alarming here how sums of money are being thrown around and then it is assumed that this is normal, meaning a large part of families spend the same amounts. Maybe some people should realize that they are rich. Far from the metropolises in rural areas, people are financing houses one after another whose monthly net income certainly is not enough for regular vacations beyond €3000.

Of course, you are privileged if you can afford expensive vacations. But what is expensive and what is average? That’s what this is about. And the real vacations of “the rich” are probably at least five-figure amounts. Therefore, here is a representative survey from Forsa with figures whose accuracy you can quickly verify by googling. In 2018, Germans spent 1352€ per person and even 4251€ per household on their main vacation. These are valid numbers that show my impression from the circle of acquaintances is probably not entirely wrong… Because otherwise, every year more cruise ships, club hotels, or family resorts wouldn’t be built. There are many who have little money, but also many who have a lot of money.
