That is correct, an average of 1.99 items per household as the value from 2019.

Also interesting is the development and distribution...

Maybe the statistics only include households that actually book a vacation. And that could again be because those are more likely families than single individuals.

Actually, I agree with all of that except the part about the Chinese. That could have been seen over twenty years ago that it wouldn’t end well if one only wanted to. The Americans already prohibited their companies back then from exporting certain cutting-edge technologies to China and having them produce there. For us, it’s more like the capitalists selling the revolutionaries the rope with which they will be hanged.

With schoolchildren, only the expensive high season with double prices remains and the Canary Islands are certainly not luxury but concrete silos. If you feel like dealing with traffic jams over the Alps, whining and vomiting children, overcrowded campsites and columns of retirees on the hiking trail — go for it! Vacation is meant for relaxing and, in my opinion, to pay money to give up stressful everyday things. Those who used to go on city trips with their buddies or backpack to Thailand can do this with the family too, if they make compromises on the dream palace. But for many, the ego runs wild with the idea of setting a monument with the house. As far as education costs are concerned. Daycare and kindergarten take their share. The after-school care and cafeteria as well. Music school, sports, sports camps, tournaments and the travel to get there too. So 400€ per child is a familiar figure. If you don’t want to make compromises, renting instead of buying is probably better, or a side job at the gas station like I observe in the neighborhood.

The neighborhood only needs the side job at the gas station because they read in internet forums that the Canary Islands are no luxury and vacation beyond the Alps must really be terrible, thus getting a completely wrong picture of reality..
