Uh yeah. Was before the first coffee -.- Still too high, should be more like 2 as I said
Maybe the statistics only include households that actually book a vacation. And that could again be because those are more likely families than single individuals. That would mean that the average household has almost 4 people? That is certainly wrong, the average household size is probably around 2 people. Something is not right here
Your debate about the vacation is entertaining, yes. However, the other contributions regarding children and costs should be taken to heart and one should definitely not base their decision on one of those usual thought games like "Yes, children cost money, but in 5 years I will earn a lot more..."
The reason for divorce in general, besides the stress of building a house, is when, in the end, one decides against children for financial reasons but the partner definitely wanted children. That does not end well.
Also with the "in 5 years we will earn a lot more". Nonsense. Children usually force one parent into part-time work, and in the looming economic crisis, to be honest, I would be glad if in 5 years I still have a job and earn the same as today.
You shouldn't bury your head in the sand, that is true. But I do not share the optimism that many here have. Because our competition from China is growing stronger faster than one could have anticipated 10 years ago. The compulsion to do everything oneself due to isolation is currently almost fueling the Chinese.
With schoolchildren, only the expensive high season with double prices remains and the Canary Islands are certainly not luxury but concrete silos. If you feel like dealing with traffic jams over the Alps, whining and vomiting children, overcrowded campsites and columns of retirees on the hiking trail — go for it! Vacation is meant for relaxing and, in my opinion, to pay money to give up stressful everyday things. Those who used to go on city trips with their buddies or backpack to Thailand can do this with the family too, if they make compromises on the dream palace. But for many, the ego runs wild with the idea of setting a monument with the house. As far as education costs are concerned. Daycare and kindergarten take their share. The after-school care and cafeteria as well. Music school, sports, sports camps, tournaments and the travel to get there too. So 400€ per child is a familiar figure. If you don’t want to make compromises, renting instead of buying is probably better, or a side job at the gas station like I observe in the neighborhood.2 weeks Canary Islands high season, 4 or 5 stars, + rental car and excursions.... It's quickly together....
