But that is also a mix of retirees, DINKs, and families (who during the holidays have to travel and still pay for a house). On average, families with kids cannot afford a luxury vacation in a resort – 2,000€ x 4 just for Turkey is simply too much during the summer holidays. Not to mention a five-star club in the Canaries or other continents. Then it goes to camping, to the North Sea, or similar.
And even that can already cost a lot of money in the summer.

Oh yes. Statistics and their interpretation. As already wrote, the analysis does not reflect the life situation at all. How high are the average vacation expenses for young families who have just built a house? Of course, there are families here who can easily manage that. The emphasis is on “can” and not on “you have to plan for that amount.” Most families lower their standards a bit during this phase of life. And that’s what this thread is about. How much should one budget for a vacation?

And when looking around, it’s always worth taking a look behind the scenes. How many grandparents give a financial boost for the family vacation at a club? That’s not few. At the moment, large money transfers are already taking place between generations to save inheritance tax later or because something like expensive holidays is coming up now.

The statistics do not take into account even remotely the difference between "what households can afford" and "what households actually afford." There are enough vacations financed on credit, just as you would not want to guess how many fancy BMWs and Mercedes on the streets belong to the bank.

Yes, I of course agree with you that many also finance vacations or lease a new car every 2 years. From an economic point of view, I also find this fundamentally wrong and not sensible. And to SaniererNRW123: I first had to google what DINKs are and couldn’t help but smile. That is naturally a target group that also influences the statistics. But it is clear that you need a basis. Such a statistic offers a point of reference. And even if, in your opinion, the statistic is driven up by these groups, around 3k per household per year is probably more than realistic. And one more thing on the topic of what children remember and what makes them happy: everyone, of course, mainly enjoys the time spent together. And how you spend it is just a matter of habit: those who have vacationed in luxury hotels since childhood are accustomed to this kind of vacation, while campers look forward to their camping vacation just as much every year. Just how you know it and have experienced it yourself with your family earlier.

That would mean that the average household has almost 4 people? That is certainly wrong, the average household size is probably around 2 people. Something is not right here

The average household would have 3 people here, right? (1352 € x 3 = 4056€)
