I would also call that a luxury. Homemade things are really great!

Where did I write that? I am only arguing against the blanket statement "that is such a luxury" with the argument "luxury is a matter of definition and for us not a luxury."

I see it the same way as . Over €8000 for a starter kit is really a lot and could definitely unsettle the OP here. Especially if an estimated €3000-4000 of that was for clothes, if I understood that correctly?!

It can also be done much cheaper without having to do without anything. And especially with clothes, you can quickly see how often the little ones wear something like that. I’d rather buy decent used items; other families then benefit from them just as much as when you buy organic and fair trade (I often doubt those labels anyway). And the environment benefits even more...

The definition says that luxury is something beyond the normal standard. I don't believe that very many here spend two months' household income on the initial equipment, and most outside the forum will never be able to afford that. Compared to that, knitting and sewing yourself is almost something normal, I just look at our grandparents ...

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. For you, of course, it's not luxury – and that is probably the reason why you sometimes rub people the wrong way here or why people feel mocked. I take it quite calmly with you because I think you honestly mean what you write.

But you always have to keep in mind that you have an exceptional income and therefore an exceptional life (high income = high ongoing costs – it's just how it is). And with that, you quickly unsettle people like this OP – what are they supposed to think if they don’t know anything else about you?

True. I hadn’t seen it that way. Of course, that’s not my intention either.

@OP: Please put our starter kit into perspective with a six-figure annual income and don’t let yourself be unsettled. Children cost money... that should be the most important insight for you. How much... only you decide.

I do that too, it's my little "vacation" from everyday life when I have the time for it. That's why I know quite well that homemade clothes are _not_ cheaper than comparably good bought ones. In my opinion, therefore, it's also not an argument for savings. Rhineland greetings
