We don't even spend 350 euros on food/household money per month... for everyone!

I can hardly believe that, that would be about 1.30€/meal for 3 people with 3 meals a day? Do you also eat out sometimes or have a nice barbecue with friends or enjoy a bottle of wine and some good cheese in the evening?
I believe you shouldn’t go below 500€ for those things unless, of course, you enjoy your life in a different way......

Hi,
our little one is now 15 months old. We don’t keep a detailed household account, but when I quickly scan through the bank transactions, I come to about 200-300 € per month in debits that go back to purchases for the little girl (diapers and stuff, powdered milk, and clothes). Then there’s daycare at 150 € per month and some savings for the extra expenses on vacation (with the small double room in the cheap backpacker hostel, you won’t be happy anymore with a child...) I would also say that 400-500 € quickly add up.
Of course, it also depends a lot on what you buy: we have a (otherwise very nice) neighbor who would never put her child into second-hand clothes and only constantly buys new brand-name clothes.
Others suddenly only buy meat at the premium organic market for 27 €/kg. (Although they themselves eat most of it...) Then you’re probably closer to 1000 € per month.

To be fair, you should actually subtract child benefit/child tax allowance from that, unless you really set it aside for the child.

Since I am currently planning our budget but am inexperienced in this area so far, I would appreciate tips from parents. Regarding the framework conditions: We are planning to build/buy a house and are currently calculating how much money would be available for the monthly installment. We know that a blanket statement is difficult, but it is rather about an approximate value. A family car is available. At my wife's workplace, there is a company daycare that is completely free. Thus, a major cost factor (daycare places here in the area cost between 500 and 700 € per month with a good income) is already eliminated. We want to exclude the increased water and electricity consumption. We also know from friends what one has to budget for an initial equipment (stroller, children's room, child seat, etc.). It is more about how much money one has to roughly calculate for food, personal care, and clothing (neither luxury nor very basic, but solid middle ground) and occasional weekend outings (e.g., to the water park, zoo, or indoor playground). Our child is almost 2 years old. Initial equipment cost was almost exactly 8300 EUR. No luxury... but everything new and high quality. Examples: stroller + Quinny 1300 EUR, car seat + carrier approx. 600 EUR etc. Monthly costs for diapers, clothing, etc. have settled at about 200 EUR. I leave food out... that’s not worth mentioning. Daycare costs us around 700 EUR. Since our child is compulsorily privately insured, about 200 EUR also apply there. In total, about 1000 EUR per month. You can be happy about the ridiculous child benefit then. Daycare and private insurance don’t apply to you... be glad. Regards, Steffen
