So.... Yes, we basically went out almost every weekend before and there were easily 100 euros gone per weekend. Nowadays, our weekends look different. We go for a long walk or hike or go to the swimming pool and the admission or an ice cream doesn’t even come close to costing 100 euros. That saves you a lot of money. We still go out today, but maybe only every three months or so. We only had to buy kids' clothes once because the boys are so close in age. For the little one, we hardly bought anything new. I actually bought a lot second-hand (no shoes!) and borrowed or received a lot from friends and family. Now that the older one is getting to an age where clothes can no longer be passed down, costs will definitely rise here. I can gladly give you a number next year because we still keep a household budget. My husband buys clothes just as much/little as before. For leisure, he still has stuff with tags from the USA from 2010. And he buys suits, shirts, and ties in large quantities every now and then, but not constantly. I, on the other hand, spent much less money on clothes during pregnancy. I also bought a lot second-hand from friends and didn’t buy much. I didn’t want to wear it for too long after the births anyway. Meanwhile, I fit into everything from before again and will probably buy something again occasionally. Although I actually buy much fewer clothes than before... you do get more reasonable with age. *laugh* When I’m in town, I somehow prefer to buy something cool for the boys rather than for myself. I have actually left out childcare costs. That costs quite a bit for us as well. Well, and when it comes to vacations, we even save more. Before the kids, we flew away and splurged. Now we prefer to go several times a year to the Baltic Sea, North Sea, or Lake Constance to a nice luxurious holiday home with sauna and such. This is together with a family we are friends with, and it only costs a fraction of what it used to... Oh, and since having kids, we eat much healthier and only cook fresh food and no more pizza, which is cheaper. I’m convinced of that by now! We eat little to no meat anymore, which also saves a lot of money as we have noticed. Yes, that’s about us! P.S.: What does the fact that you want to teach your children how to handle money have to do with whether you want to bring them into the world at all! Our boys only get gifts at Christmas and birthdays and it will stay that way. If they want something in between later, they should buy it with their pocket money or get a job later and afford something. That’s how we did it and that’s how our kids will do it! Life isn’t a pony farm, I always say, and they should know that! Nevertheless, since birth, we have been saving the entire child benefit for the children so that they can study abroad later or afford something on their own! They still need to know that you have to earn all that and that it doesn’t just fall from the sky. Whether it’s the bike now or the car for their 18th birthday!
