And I am considering getting a drawer bread slicer. For: one less thing on the countertop, the crumbs are not all over the place. Against: it occupies a drawer (and we probably only have 80 cm drawers, wasting another 20 cm), our current one is perfectly fine and does not need to be replaced anytime soon. And it’s good too. Opinions?

I would keep the existing machine. With a drawer machine, don’t the crumbs spread into all corners? Also, it takes up a lot of storage space. Depending on how generous your countertop space is, you can always put the regular machine away when needed if you require temporary space – the one in the drawer occupies a good, easily accessible storage space permanently.

Btw – my bread slicer stands on a shelf in the storage room. I eventually stopped using it. Fresh bread was never really for it anyway, so I got used to slicing by hand. It’s sometimes very individualized, but I’m getting better at it. And the crumbs are quickly wiped away as well.

The crumbs just stay in the drawer then, in my opinion they bother much less than being spread out on the countertop. And every now and then you can vacuum them out, you have to do that in the storage drawers too (pieces of onion skin, sand from the potatoes, etc.). My machine isn’t shocked by fresh bread either, it’s really great I’m so undecided.

What is your opinion on the Miele Dialoggarer? Do you need it? Or is the price of just under €8000 exaggerated?
