Presumably, that's the case. I just did the test. At 6 m distance from our pump, I only hear it if I really concentrate on the noise. While gardening or doing similar activities, I wouldn't notice it at all; if there were car traffic here, I also wouldn't hear it. Inside the house, I don't hear it at all in the adjacent room. A neighbor definitely wouldn't hear it in their house. Maybe the new pump isn't really new, but rather one that doesn't belong to the latest generation was installed.

especially when the heat pump has to work hard and perform a lot (i.e. in winter), you are not sitting on the terrace anyway or have the window open all day. If you hear a new heat pump in a new building with triple glazing, basically something is wrong. You are more likely to hear the circulation pump in the technical room. But you have that with every heating system, regardless of whether it is electric or fossil...

This has nothing to do with "new" or generations. It’s simply about the materials/components used. That means even the "newest" models can hum and buzz or be quiet. It’s always stated in the technical data, and you get what you pay/pay for or what the technician installs. Wear and tear then add up over the years.

Check if it stands in the water (straight). Often mistakes are already made at the foundation and not sufficiently corrected when installing the pump. Of course, this is not good for the bearing etc. The parts are generally only allowed to be transported upright. At my neighbor’s, it is quite crooked and you still can’t hear it yet. Let’s see how long that lasts...

as already mentioned in the thread about fans:

Part of the noise level comes from structural sound, that is higher-frequency vibrations
transmitted through the mounting frame into the wall/floor.
Here it often helps quite simply to decouple the unit acoustically, for example by mounting it on
rubber dampers.

Well, both our builder and the plumber said that the predecessor model of our pump was louder.
But otherwise, you can look at the data and choose one that is quiet.
