If the provider is otherwise good, then better take the garage from someone else than to change the general contractor because of the garage price. I can also highly recommend Hoffmann for the garage to you. Company names may definitely be mentioned here, only if there is bad to report, then only in a moderated section "Experiences with ...".

I followed your recommendation right away and also submitted an inquiry to Hoffmann. Thanks!

The dilemma is that the second main contractor also does a good job. Here I did not receive direct feedback, but "friends of friends have built with them and are satisfied...". But our personal impression regarding consultation, planning, and transparency also strengthened the tendency towards the second provider. However, to not completely drift off-topic, here is our garage offer:

14 plastered garage
Garage with dimensions 6.00 m * 9.00 m, partially attached to the house.
The exterior walls will be constructed with 17.5 cm hollow bricks. The front, boundary, and rear sides will be plastered. Inside, the walls will be plastered (without painting work). With basic electrics (1 switch, 2 sockets, 1 ceiling outlet). With Hörmann garage sectional door with M-rib, door with light cut-out and 1 window. With cement screed on separating layer. The base in the garage will be painted about 10 cm high. The joint between screed and wall will be sealed permanently elastic. The roof (inclined for rainwater drainage) will be executed with wooden beams and sealing. The soffit will be clad with gypsum board. The roof will be connected to the rainwater drainage system via a flat roof drain. The garage will receive a continuous slate band.

If both are not only from the region but also have their clientele primarily based there, I would look at customer houses from both and take notes: once for the objective impression a kind of grade, and once what kind of people these customers are, divided into three classes. Class A are people with a similar attitude to us and comparable income levels, and classes B and C are people where instead of "and" there is an "or". Then I would determine the average grade of my impressions separately for classes A, B, and C. Impressions of houses where the customers basically belong to class D (= there is neither an overlap in attitude nor socially) I would disregard. If the two GCs are still "tied" after that and you can leave the decision to chance by coin toss, then enjoy this fortunate situation. If a provider with otherwise sympathetic price/performance ratio has an "outlier" in a separable side issue, I do not read this as a negative point that he is a rip-off artist or cannot calculate, but quite the opposite: it is a diplomatic hint that they only want to serve the customer in their competence area. The less liked side business is then deliberately calculated with a markup that gives the customer a convincing argument to leave this item out of the order. As a customer before making a decision, one should then possibly ask GC "Y" to also deduct this item from the package like "X". Under no circumstances should you then "compare apples and oranges" or "cut from totals" by wrongly comparing the total prices of GC "Y" with the liked and GC "X" with the disliked garage as 1:1. Here is an excellent opportunity to let the impression outweigh the pure numbers language. Building a house requires the smart investor.

Is the garage foundation included in your offer?

The foundation is included. But I will have it written into the offer as well.

hm, I would like to know how much I would have to pay for our garage (6x8.5) if contracted separately... Our shell builder included the garage in the house offer. House with: -175m2 living space, -masonry with filled Poroton bricks, -double-sided insulated strip foundations, -12cm XPS under the floor slab, -complete groundworks (excavation about 120m3 + almost 400t of gravel had to be filled), -drainage, 2 transfer shafts -... cost 195k in the final invoice. When I see the prices here, that would mean the garage accounts for about 1/5 of the house price. Crazy... In addition to the shell garage, the following was added: -concrete ceiling waterproofing - 4.5k -side entrance door - 1k -garage door - 3k -plaster and screed were also included together in the house offer. I estimate both together about 3k
