Dear Ypg,

I actually like cats in principle, even though we don't have one ourselves.

But:

Where exactly am I intolerant if I don't want to clean up cat poop every day (again, it's not even clear if it is cat poop!!) ? Should I throw my son's diapers over the fence every day? Would you tolerate that?

No one minds the cat walking through the garden (apart from the whole discussion about killed small animals), I just don't want to have to constantly clean up the mess.

The cat owner could do that sometimes...

Best regards,

Andreas

Just by the way: Toxoplasmosis from a fresh pile of feces is excluded. The pathogen typically needs about 3 days of a warm and moist environment to "mature" into a dangerous form. The initially excreted spores are harmless. Therefore, cleaning the litter box daily (with subsequent hygiene!) is fairly safe. Gardening without gloves is much worse! That’s why I (currently incubating) work exclusively with gloves when I’m digging in the garden.

But I think your attitude is absolutely right, stay calm, find the culprit, and then come up with a proper solution. And yes, you don’t have to put up with the pile of feces. If the neighbor’s tomcat is to blame, he may (purely from a personal standpoint) be involved in finding a solution.

Hi,

Thanks, that’s a good tip. I hadn’t thought of that before. I used my GoPro in time-lapse mode last night. Only in the morning you have 3-5000 pictures to go through...

With the trail camera you might also catch hedgehogs and the like, then my daughter would have fun with it too!

Like!

Best regards,

Andreas

Hello evolith

replace the word cat with dogs in your post.
Would that be okay for you too?
So, let's say a dog from the neighborhood comes into your garden daily. The neighbor says, there’s nothing I can do about it. The dog is simply incorrigible. Wouldn’t it be normal then for me to deal with the problem of the dog pooping? As I said, on my land. And there are different options for me: a hose with a strong jet, a slingshot with steel balls, or even a spade. The dog is one thing, and this thing harms me daily. So I solve the problem. In a way that promises a solution. Since the cause, meaning the owner of this thing, offers no attempt to solve it.

Hello Andreas

I have a wildlife camera in winter at the feeding station for the birds. Unbelievable what comes there.
Great spotted woodpeckers and green woodpeckers are always the highlights. And when at night a rat steals the titmouse rings, I am always well informed. Then the rat trap is put to use.

Our garden is open to the front. I clean up dog poop weekly that is significantly larger than the one shown in #1. I have 2 cats. But that doesn’t make me a dog hater. The dog owners are also welcome - if someone is caught, they immediately get a shovel in their hand. But otherwise, I don’t care. Repeat offenders are, of course, annoying. As mentioned, the anti-cat pee device works very well for my dad. Otherwise, there are also PC cameras that make relatively good night recordings and activate when there is movement. Very entertaining what kind of creatures crawl and flutter around!
