Hello

to the thread starter:
According to established case law, it is completely legitimate to catch a cat that is roaming on your enclosed property and, for example, marking there, in a live trap.
Ebay: 362044618773 is, for example, one suitable for this purpose.
It must of course be handed over to the owner immediately. If the owner cannot be identified, take it to the animal shelter. Preferably to the nearest one, or one that is on the way.

How good is your liability insurance so that you, as a non-lawyer, can provide legal advice here?

Why go through the hassle with a live trap? Why not first try to make the place uncomfortable for the cat? Sprinkle some pepper generously. Then it will probably avoid you like the plague. Pepper is hell for cats, but please use very coarse pepper. Fine pepper irritates the cat's eyes a lot, and then it can happen that the owner wants you to cover the vet costs. I would advise against vinegar; it ruins your lawn.

Alternatively, you can also see if it always shows up at the same time. At that time, you could lie in wait (on the upper floor with an open window) holding a very loud rattling can. And when the cat comes, you throw the pepper next to it on the ground. Then hide immediately. Important: as soon as it starts to poop, throw the can (not at the cat but next to it); you must not be seen. So the cat associates the scare with its pooping. Depending on the stubbornness, you may have to repeat this a few times, but usually once is enough.

Hello Musketier how do you come to the conclusion that this is legal advice? Do you have such bad lawyers? This is pure Google knowledge. So, once again: cat owners have to come up with solutions. If they resist or are not interested that THEIR cat poops on my lawn, I will make the solution. And a very gentle one, which many judges consider justified, is to catch the cat in a live trap. I have nothing against cats. But I also don’t like them making a ruckus in my garden. And if a cat owner tells me to lie in wait for several nights and throw cans when the cat starts pooping, but absolutely not to hit the cat, then I will come up with an appropriate means. One that works. Let the cat owner lie in wait for nights. Steven

And an expensive solution that just creates extra work for you is the result of your thoughts? That's like using a cannon to shoot cats.

Cats are sensitive to smells. Spray something aromatic on the lawn every evening and that's that. Surely you can find out just as quickly on Google what helps as how to get your legal education there.

We have had very good experience with clove oil in dogs. Nibbled favorite carpet edges were left alone from now on amid loud protest howls. Maybe it also works with cats?
