Building cheaply - this is how it can be done too!

That’s saving money in the wrong place – better to do without shutters or something similar. When you’re 60-70, you’ll be glad you planned your home so that you can live only on the ground floor, i.e. at least one more room and a shower on the ground floor – curves and corners also at least wide enough so that you can manage with a wheelchair in an emergency.

My advice would even be to build on the ground floor right away for a family with two children where possible. Just like the user zizzi plans to do. Or winnetou. Where possible means where I can get a plot 600 plus.

I would be interested to know what percentage of homeowners are still living in the same house at 70. (Excluding retirees who have finished building).

There will not be that many. We also have the second house, our first was an end-terrace house, with stairs, as is usual there, with 100 m walk from the parking lot to the front door, but almost downtown. The location is no longer so central, but on the other hand, it is on one level. Therefore, my advice is to do that right away. Saves you from the second building. Karsten

Greetings!
We are not yet 70 but still living in the same self-built house.
Except for a widow who sold, people around us rather upgrade with various Ascendor lift systems.
For those between 85 and 95 years old who need additional support, someone from the family or the local nursing service comes to the house daily, or Slovak helpers are employed every two weeks or Romanians for three months. The nursing home is more of a last resort.
I don’t know anyone between 60 and 70 who has built a new house again. They prefer to move into a suitable apartment, if possible near children and grandchildren.
Hopefully I am not too off-topic.

Bungalows become quite adventurous in terms of layout from around 150sqm upwards. We need two children's rooms and two offices; I don't consider this feasible on one level. For that, we have a straight staircase. Any stairlift can handle that, if ever needed at all.
